Encouraging children with autism and their parents to have fun with the hard stuff

Enjoyable Reads for the End of Summer

It’s been a challenging few weeks as we wait for crucial biopsy results for one of our dogs, Rufus. He’s been bravely battling reactive histiocytosis, which has caused him significant discomfort. Despite trying different medications, nothing seems to be working just yet. We’re eager to hear what the next steps will be from the vets, but we’re staying hopeful while navigating the ups and downs of dog ownership.

Every day, we’re reminded of Rufus’s special nature. He’s without a doubt one of the cleverest dogs we’ve ever had—and also one of the most stubborn! He’s come up with many creative ways to try and remove his “cone of shame.” Despite never being a formal therapy dog, Rufus has a remarkable ability to connect with people, especially our twin boys who are on the autism spectrum. His gentle, intuitive nature inspired me to create a book series centered on a character named Argonaut—who is, of course, based on Rufus.

Introducing Argonaut: The First Book in the Series Is Now Available on Amazon!

Argonaut is a therapy dog who embarks on missions to bring joy and comfort to people in need. The story is told from a dog’s perspective, making it a unique and delightful read for children just beginning their reading journey. I’m excited to share that the first book in the series is now available on Amazon, and the second is scheduled for release in mid-September! Writing this story has been a great way to capture some of the qualities that make Rufus so special—his empathy, intelligence, and the joy he brings into our lives. I hope young readers find Argonaut’s adventures heartwarming and engaging as they follow him on his missions.

Fred’s First Comic Book: A Dr. Seuss-Inspired Adventure

I’m also thrilled to introduce Fred’s First Comic Book, now available on Amazon. This colorful, rhythmic story draws inspiration from the whimsical style of Dr. Seuss and tells the tale of Fred, an Irish Setter who finds himself in fun and unexpected situations. Growing up, I had a wonderfully bonkers Irish Setter, so it felt right to pay tribute to her, although she already appears in my book Abi, Squirrel, and the Whole Heap of Trouble. However, I didn’t truly appreciate the charm of Dr. Seuss until my own boys couldn’t get enough of his books when they first started reading. I can still hear Dr. Seuss’s ABC and Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb being read on repeat! I hope Fred’s First Comic Book captures that same playful rhythm and vibrant energy, making it an ideal choice for children who love imaginative stories with a humorous twist.

Abysmal Octogenarians: A Free Read with Growing Success

For readers who enjoy more mature and satirical stories, I’m proud to share that Abysmal Octogenarians is currently ranked in the Government category on WattPad, out of nearly 9,000 stories! This humorous look at the chaos of governance and the eccentric characters involved has been a joy to write. I’m also thrilled to announce that it’s been entered into this year’s Wattys, WattPad’s annual awards celebrating the best stories on the platform. With such fierce competition, I’m honored to be part of it. Expect more absurdity and laughs as the story unfolds.
